TiVo Partnerships Enable Portability of Entertainment That Can't Be Found on Generic DVRs
January 5, 2005 - CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, Las Vegas, NV – TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO) said today that it is collaborating with leaders in technology to extend the innovative TiVoToGo™ service enhancement to enable portability to multiple devices. The company began rolling out the TiVoToGo service enhancement to subscribers this week and will work with Microsoft, Sonic, and AMD respectively, to enable consumers to take their entertainment with them wherever they go, to watch whenever they want.
"Now that millions of consumers are enjoying the TiVo service in their living rooms, we found that many of them had a desire to take that entertainment experience with them. By rallying other industry leaders around this opportunity, we can bring consumers that extended TiVo experience to a broad range of devices in a quick and powerful way," said Matt Wisk, chief marketing officer, TiVo.
Microsoft Chairman and Founder Bill Gates announced during his keynote address tonight at the Consumer Electronics Show that the two companies have embarked on a collaborative effort designed to allow consumers to take digital entertainment with them on portable devices.
Gates demonstrated how television programs stored on a TiVo® box can be transferred to a Windows XP PC for playback on Windows Mobile devices, including Portable Media Centers, and media-capable Pocket PCs and Smart phones.
"TiVoToGo is going to be an important element in our efforts to help consumers get content from the TiVo box to a growing number of Windows Mobile-based devices that make portable digital entertainment a reality," said Todd Warren, Corporate VP of Microsoft's Devices, Services and Experience Division.
Sonic Solutions has also introduced the latest version of its MyDVD Studio line (version 6.1), a comprehensive suite of software that enables users to record TiVo programming to DVD for playback on any of the millions of DVD players and DVD-equipped PCs worldwide. Starting mid-January, a MyDVD Studio 6.1 free 15-day trial and complete product software download will be available to TiVo subscribers on www.tivo.com/togo. The complete product software download will be offered to TiVo subscribers at a discounted rate of $49.99 ($20 off MSRP).

"With Sonic MyDVD Studio 6 and TiVoToGo, users can transfer their favorite programs over a home network and burn them onto DVDs that can be watched on TVs and DVD-equipped PCs anywhere they chose."
TiVo also announced that leading processor developer AMD (NYSE: AMD) has released a new embedded multimedia solution, the AMD Alchemy™ Au1200™ processor, that enables the transfer of programming from TiVo boxes to portable devices built on that platform.
