AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced a new addition to its highly acclaimed AMD Turion 64 mobile technology processor family with the introduction of AMD Turion 64 mobile technology ML-44. The newest addition to this popular mobile processor family is available now in the HP Pavilion dv8000 Media Center Notebook PC.
AMD Turion 64 mobile technology is designed to address the needs of today's highly mobile consumers and business users who desire thin and light notebooks with long battery life, 64-bit computing, enhanced protection from malicious viruses and leading-edge graphics and wireless solutions.
"The powerful and versatile AMD Turion 64 mobile technology helps HP put a world of digital entertainment at your fingertips," said Chris Cloran, vice president, Mobile Division, AMD's Microprocessor Solutions Sector. "With the HP Pavilion dv8000 Media Center Notebook PC, mobile consumers can have the flexibility to enjoy movies, photos and music virtually anytime, anywhere."
"AMD Turion 64 mobile technology helps us address the needs of today's discerning mobile consumers who want more performance and more digital entertainment from their notebook PCs," said Bruce Greenwood, director of product marketing, North America Consumer Computing for HP. "HP's media center notebooks deliver an incredible mobile digital media experience, similar even to some desktops today, and AMD enables us to offer customers a truly differentiated system based on the latest technology."
The HP Pavilion dv8000 Media Center Notebook PC includes Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, Microsoft Corp.'s operating system designed specifically for home entertainment, which makes it easy for consumers to enjoy TV, music, photos and movies with the ease of a remote control.
The HP Pavilion dv8000 Media Center Notebook PC also includes dual hard drives to give consumers an easy backup solution and plenty of storage for their digital content. It offers entertainment features such as HP QuickPlay for playing movies or music without a full system boot; it also offers options such as HP's LightScribe direct disc labeling technology for creating custom labels for CDs and DVDs, and HP UltraBrightView technology, which uses dual lamps to deliver an improved contrast ratio for viewing high-definition graphics. The HP Pavilion dv8000 Media Center Notebook PC powered by AMD Turion 64 mobile technology is now available in North America and Europe. "Consumer demand for Media Center PCs is really taking off," said Dave Mendlen, director of Windows Consumer Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "AMD recognizes this and is building on their success with Media Center desktops to create another win for consumers by powering Media Center notebook PCs that enable them to enjoy their favorite digital entertainment anywhere."
Together with other industry leaders, AMD enables a best-in-class ecosystem of industry-standard technologies, helping PC manufacturers to deliver feature-rich systems that can satisfy the variety of ways in which people use their notebooks. AMD offers the only mobile-specific processors available today that are able to run both 32-bit and 64-bit software, providing a smart investment optimized to take advantage of the features, security and performance of 64-bit operating systems, including both Windows XP Pro X64 and the upcoming Windows Vista, the next-generation Windows operating system.
