| AMD OPTERON USED TO CAPTURE LIVE AUDIO FOR THE 78TH ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS At last night’s 78th Annual Academy Awards®, orchestral performances were recorded live using a dual-core AMD Opteron processor-based digital audio workstation from ADK running Steinberg’s Nuendo media production software on top of Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating system. Remote Recording of New York City has recorded and archived live orchestral performances at the Academy Awards for the past 15 years. This year marks the first time a computer of any kind was relied upon instead of tape for this purpose. “Recording over 100 signal inputs of live audio for an event with the magnitude of the Academy Awards, system reliability is the utmost concern,” said David Hewitt, president of Remote Recording. “We have complete faith in our rock-solid AMD64-based workstation running Nuendo and Windows XP Pro. It’s the only digital platform we’d consider for this environment.” “AMD’s Direct Connect Architecture continues to take PC technology into mission-critical media production environments where stability is a door- die proposition,” said Charlie Boswell, director of Digital Media and Entertainment for AMD. “Going ‘LIVE!’ with confidence on AMD64 as proven by Remote Recording at the Academy Awards demonstrates the competitive strength of our architecture for digital media because the end user can concentrate on the content without worrying about the technology.” About AMD64 The AMD64 processor platform is the gold standard for 64-bit computing. AMD64’s Direct Connect Architecture evolves industry standards (7pt. Bold, Flush Right) #21010 to deliver break-through performance on single- and dual-core processors, reducing bottlenecks inherent in traditional front-side bus architectures. AMD64 technology is also designed to enhance the security of computing environments by integrating Enhanced Virus Protection* technology enabled by advanced anti-virus features in current versions of Linux®, Microsoft® Windows® and Solaris operating systems. Today, 90 percent of the top 100 and more than 45 percent of the top 500 of the Forbes Global 2000 companies or their subsidiaries are using AMD64 technology. Since their 2003 introduction, AMD64 processors have earned more than 160 industry awards and the support of more than 2,000 OEMs, hardware and software developers, system builders and distributors.
