AMD Roadshow 2005
Paris - 10/25/05 - Part 2
On a sunny day we went to the  Espace Cardin, a famous exhibition place facing the US Ambassy in Paris. Last stop of a six stage roadshow for AMD retailers and distributors, the Paris version started at 12.30PM precise with a welcome drink and a bag full of AMD documents and goodies...
The Sponsors & Exhibitors
Bacatá, Corsair, Dataswift, Elite, Gigabyte, Microsoft, MSI, Newisys, NVIDIA, Ovislink, Supermicro and VIA

Fourth Stop:  Elitegroup (ECS)

Aside from the 6-layers motherboard KN1 Extreme, not much to see at ECS until we were lucky to assist to a private presentation of a prototype sporting the latest low-power Geode processors rated 1200+, 1500+ (pictured below) and 1700+, the chip offered an unprecedented consumption of, respectively, 3W, 6W and 12W. The working sample was a Geode 1500+ that was running on ECS Geode board. As you can see on the following picture, the PC has its standard PSU disconnected and get its power supply from a simple 30W A/C converter that allow to have a totally fanless machine. Thanks to multimedia hard-coded instructions, this version of Geode is said to be very good in all multimedia applications, making it an ideal candidate for totally silent Multimedia Centers. The working sample has no hard disk drive and loaded linux O/S and MPC program straight from a simple 64MB USB flash memory! Once loaded, we played a full screen DVD in stereo without a problem while the CPU copper radiator was barely hot!
According to Elite, Multimedia Center based on that design should see the light very soon and the company is very enthusiastic about the new Geode performances and the potential it represents in the market in term of price and quality...

Running a DVD the fanless Geode 1500+ PC is totally silent and barely hot!
The 12V input arives into a passive transformer that split the current into 3.3V, 5V and 12V rails.
