Enterprise and Industrial Designers Turn to AMD Geode and AMD Alchemy Solutions for Low-Power, High-Performance Processing

AMD (NYSE:AMD) today announced a series of design wins for its low-power
AMD Geode and AMD Alchemy processors; customers include Wyse Technology, DT Research, Unisys Brazil, Chip PC Technologies and DSP Design. AMD embedded solutions provide low power consumption giving designers the freedom to create efficient and versatile devices for a wide variety of applications, including thin client computers, single board computers, set-top boxes and personal media players (PMPs).

Especially effective for the rapidly growing thin client space, AMD Geode processors deliver tightly integrated CPU and graphics operations and high performance for on-demand computing. Wyse Technology, the leader in thin computing, incorporated
AMD Geode processors for the entire Wyse® WintermTM S-class family of thin clients, which can be deployed with Wyse O/S 5.0 (formerly known as "Blazer"), Windows CE 5.0, Wyse Linux V6 and Windows XP Embedded.

"Wyse is dedicated to providing robust solutions that serve the needs of a variety of users looking for lower TCO alternatives to traditional desktops," said Ricardo Antuna, vice president of business line management, Wyse Technology. "In collaborating with AMD, we are able to provide our customers with a product suite that delivers x86 capabilities, durability and reliability, low power consumption and the right performance for their needs."

Among the AMD embedded solution design wins is the WebDT product line offering by DT Research, the industry's first
AMD Geode LX processor solution, developed for cost effective, high-performance connectivity to server-based IT environments. AMD also is announcing a design win with Unisys that will leverage the AMD Geode GX processor for the WBT 1000 thin client device being manufactured in Brazil.

"Low-cost, high-performance processors are helping drive enterprise adoption of on-demand computing, by providing the compute performance that users demand of thin client devices," said Bob O'Donnell, vice president of research, IDC. "As IT teams realize the security and management benefits of thin clients and server-based computing, device performance and versatility will become increasingly important."

In addition to the
AMD Geode offerings, AMD Alchemy processors are being used in a broad range of low-power, high-performance processing applications including thin-clients, PMPs and peripheral devices. Chip PC Technologies recently unveiled the Jack-PC -- a versatile thin client computer fully integrated into a wall LAN jack -- that leverages the low-power, high-performance networking capabilities of the AMD Alchemy Au1550 processor.

UK-based DSP Design, which supplies embedded computing modules to a variety of embedded systems including seat back entertainment, medical equipment, POS systems and industrial instruments, also takes advantage of the AMD Alchemy platform benefits. The highly-integrated Athena AA1200 launched this week by DSP Design uses the low power and small footprint of the
AMD Alchemy Au1200 system-on-chip (SoC) for a range of devices including PMPs and Digital Media Adapters.

"With the introduction of the AMD Alchemy processor-based Athena AA1200, DVD-quality video is now available for a wide range of embedded projects using a board with very low power consumption providing exciting new options for system designers," said Matthew Caffrey, sales director, DSP Design.

AMD Geode and AMD Alchemy processors received strong validation at the 2005 Citrix iForum with multiple customers announcing new AMD embedded processor-based solutions. Products on display at the event included solutions by Computer Lab International Inc., Maple, Start Corp., TECO, and Tul Corp.
