LSI Logic Fibre Channel HBA Reaches I/O Benchmark Never Before Seen in the Industry
When Combined With AMD64 Technology-Based AMD Opteron Processors, LSI Logic Delivers 250,000 I/Ops With a Single HBA
MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 20 - LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI - News) announced today that the company's LSI7402XP quad port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (HBA) performance surpassed 250,000 I/Os per second (IOPs). On tests conducted on an AMD 4P platform using AMD Opteron processors Model 850, LSI Logic's 7402XP HBA has delivered performance benchmarks that are more than 40 percent faster than any other Fibre Channel HBA product available in the industry today. "As IT managers look to take advantage of Direct Connect Architecture and 64-bit capabilities of AMD Opteron processors to meet the workloads of enterprise applications, such as mission-critical databases, it is essential that they have access to high-performance HBAs for a complete I/O solution," said Charlie Kraus, director of LSI Logic's HBA division. "On an AMD Opteron processor-based server designed for environments requiring maximum performance for compute-intensive applications, our 7402XP HBA has delivered an unprecedented quarter million IOPs, further demonstrating LSI Logic's capability to deliver industry-leading throughput for the industry's newest computer platforms."
The LSI7402XP HBA, which is currently available, is a 64-bit 2Gb/sec PCI-X HBA, which fully supports AMD Opteron processors. The LSI7402XP incorporates two LSIFC929X 2Gb/s Fibre Channel controller devices, which leverage LSI Logic's Fusion-MPT(TM) (Message Passing Technology) architecture for maximum performance. The Fusion-MPT architecture has integrated internal processors that offload the server CPU for automatic linear scalability, providing overall system performance and more reliable data transfers at a faster rate.
