01/21/03 - Athlon XP 1700+ vs. Celeron vs. P4
Russian site OC.RU has just finished a breathtaking match between three 13nm competitors overclocked to the limit. The XP 1700+ (60$) is then pushed to 1.9GHz, the Celeron (90$) OC'ed from 2GHz to 3GHz and the Pentium 4 (150$) OC'ed from 1.8GHz to 2.8GHz. If the Intel's babies can earn a hefty 60% speed increase with overclocking, their performances aren't so impressive and Athlon XP remains a much better buy! Read this here

Using a new breed of cooler called Prometiea (from Chip-Con), Tom's Hardware's crew has succeeded in pushing the Athlon XP 2700 to the high speed of 2.8GHz which is equivalent to a PR rating of 4000+. The whole system is heavy and cost around 600$ but the cooling power will stun the most demanding overclockers... Read here

AMD announced that Scyld Computing Corporation is developing a 64-bit version of Scyld Beowulf, a leading cluster operating system, for systems based on the upcoming
AMD Opteron processors. The new version
of Scyld Beowulf, expected to be available mid-first half 2003, will be optimized for AMD's 64-bit technology to bring enhanced Linux kernel, libraries and utilities specific to clustered x86 computing. Read more
