- Linux v2.6 scales the enterprise
"Tests were run on three separate hardware platforms: Intel Xeon (x86), Intel Itanium 2 (IA-64), and AMD Opteron (x86_64). The x86 tests were conducted on an IBM eServer x335 1U rack-mount server with dual 3.06GHz P4 Xeon processors and 2GB of RAM. The Itanium 2 tests were run on an IBM eServer x450 3U rack-mount server with dual 1.5GHz Itanium 2 processors and 2GB of RAM. And the Opteron tests were run on a Newisys 4300 3U rack-mount server with dual 2.2GHz Opteron 848 processors and 2GB of RAM."... And guess who's the fastest... At InfoWorld!

- HP to begin offering Opteron-servers
Hewlett-Packard Co. will begin using AMD Opteron chip in server computers, according to people familiar with the matter, adding momentum to AMD's challenge to industry leader Intel in supplying the lucrative market for corporate computers. The move is significant because HP has been Intel's primary partner in rolling out Itanium, its competing 64-bit processor, a chip credited as a sharp advance in computing power but which has been slowed in the market by its higher price. - Intel 'likely' to offer 64-bit Pentium
"The thorny question that remains centres on whether Intel will adopt AMD's AMD64 technology or offer something along the same lines, but of its own devising. Past rumours have had it that Microsoft will only support one 64-bit x86 ISA, and since AMD got there first, Intel will have to just get into line". At The Register

- High-End CPU’s from AMD and Intel compared
"While the Opteron has shown itself to be the dominant CPU in the benchmarks we ran, we have yet to develop highly re-producible tests based on different areas of server performance, especially database serving and game serving. Other tests around the web have shown the Opteron to be dominant in these areas as well, but we still plan to run benchmarks based on these server elements as well in the near future. Still, we have very little doubt in our minds that the Opteron will be the server CPU throughout 2004.". Read more at GamePC Here
