These results include a stock-based compensation expense of $15 million due to the implementation of SFAS 123(R) and an expense of $20 million associated with the partial redemption of senior notes. AMD ramped the new 300 millimeter (mm) fab to 90 nanometer (nm) volume production in record time, hitting every major milestone on schedule and beginning production at mature yields. Read more here ______________________________________________ 03/24/06 - Cray XT3 for Western Australian SC Program Cray Inc. announced that the University of Western Australia will install a Cray XT3 system as part of the Western Australia Supercomputing Program (WASP). Among the research activities planned for the new supercomputer are major large-scale computational studies and simulations in the areas of geophysics, chemistry, astrophysics, biology, rock mechanics, genetic epidemiology, physics and quantum mechanics, and water research. Athlon 64 FX' prices will remain unchanged. On the 15th of May, Semprons' prices will go down and Socket AM2 processors' prices will be released even though the chips (Socket AM2 Athlon 64 and Socket AM2 Sempron) will be launched a bit later: "In order to get used to it" AMD explained while stating that cheap Socket AM2 motherboards will come very quickly and will guarantee a fast transition to this new socket size... ______________________________________________ 03/09/06 - AMD and SiS at CeBIT 2006 Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) said today that SiS chipsets developed based on AMD platform to support AMD LIVE!™ have successfully been delivered fresh home entertainment solution for digital lifestyle. Read more here ______________________________________________ 03/07/06 - Opteron used for 78th Annual Academy Awards 78th Annual Academy Awards, orchestral performances were recorded live using a dual-core AMD Opteron-based digital audio workstation from ADK running Steinberg’s Nuendo media production software on top of Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating system. Remote Recording of New York City has recorded and archived live orchestral performances at the Academy Awards for the past 15 years. This year marks the first time a computer of any kind was relied upon instead of tape for this purpose. Read more here ______________________________________________ 02/28/06 - 27000 Opteron Sun Ultra 20 for Mexican schools Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW - News) announced today that it will deliver more than 27,000 AMD Opteron processor-based Sun Ultra 20 Workstations and five years of Sun services as part of a $400 million contract to help bridge the digital divide in Mexican education. The agreement, the largest education deal for Sun in Latin America to date, is a component of the Mexican Ministry of Education's national Enciclomedia project, which aims to offer computer technology to fifth- and six-grade classrooms in Mexico's national public school system. On the price cut front, Opteron is the big winner with price cut up to 52.4% on designs like 2XX HE and 8XX HE while Athlon X2 and Turion MLXX are also on the cutting list with price down 8 to 32% ! New products on the price list are the dual-core Opteron 275 HE and 875 HE, at $1,051 and $2,149, respectively as you may see at AMD here ______________________________________________ 02/09/06 - SiS Announces Chipsets for Socket AM2 These latest chipsets for AMD Socket AM2 covers the full spectrum of desktop and mobile platforms, with two new chipsets for desktop platform: SiS756 and SiS761GX; and four for mobile solution: SiS756, SiSM760, SiSM761GX and SiSM760GX. The AMD socket AM2 is slated to fully replace AMD’s current socket 939 and socket 754, and will be available on the second quarter of 2006. AMD Socket AM2 processors provides full support for advanced DDR2 memory and dual-channel technology.
