Earlier news here ____________________________________________ 02/21/05 - AMD64 OPN, nForce4 boost DFI, and more... After updating the AMD64 OPN chart here with the latest datas regarding Sempron, Opteron and revision numbers, we're now fit to start a new exciting week. First good news concerns DFI where, according DigiTimes here, nForce4 helped boosting the January revenue of 28%! Not resting on its laurel, AMD just released 2 major tech documents: first, "Socket 754 Design and Qualification Requirements" here and second, "BIOS and Kernel Developer's Guide for Athlon 64 and Opteron" here. While, Intel is frantically preparing the release of first Pentium with 64-Bit instruction set as explained here, some are already testing it here and there. No one looks stunned with Intel puppy's performance and we expect real testing in the 64Bit environment soon... Until then, let's enjoy the chipset war for AMD64 supremacy. In the left corner here, SIS has some SIS756FX ready while contender Mohamed ULi , in the right one here , has a dual-channel DDR2 northbridge ready to strike. Oh whatta fight! ____________________________________________ 02/18/05 - 2004 PC shipment, Sempron 3000+, etc. After storming LinuxWorld here, AMD is going to present at Goldman Sachs Technology Investment Symposium on Feb. 24 here and, as usual, we expect some more exciting news about dual-core, Turion 64 and plan to grab even more market share in 2005. Back to 2004, Nikkei Asia has all the PC shipment numbers here and, along with the top 10 list, they reveal a 20% growth compared to 2003. Staying in Asia, we're glad to see Sempron 3000+ coming in the stores in socket 754 version. Akiba PC Hotline has the news and a few picts here for your viewing pleasure Today, our daily SUN news does not bring us the world (in)famous Page 3 but rather a very interesting roadmap in a lovely Acrobat file located here which will be added to the hottest list of roadmaps ever published here and nowhere else... If after all this your brain isn't smoking like The General then join Tekbunker for a tech meditation on the most esoteric topic one could expect: "Are consoles overtaking PCs? ". Yo! ____________________________________________ 02/17/05 - Motherboards & barebones reviews of the day - AOpen n250a-FR nForce3 250 at PC stats - Price - Abit AV8-3rd Eye K8T800 Pro at A1 Electronics - Price - Foxconn NF4UK8AA-8EKRS at Tech Report - Price - Apple iPod Mini Blue 4 GB MP3 Player starting at 231$ - Albatron K8X890 ProII VIA K8T890 Pro at PC stats - Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI nForce4 SLI at Hexus - Price - Kingston 512 MB DDR SDRAM 400 MHz starting at 65$ ____________________________________________ 02/17/05 - New ATI Mobile chipset Radeon Xpress 200M ATI Technologies announced the introduction of RADEON XPRESS 200M – the industry’s first integrated PCI Express DirectX 9 chipset for AMD processor-based notebook PCs. Read more about this here ____________________________________________ 02/17/05 - SSE3 tested, Orthy against fake, Sun, Sun, Sun AnandTech is spoiling us with a test of E4 stepping and SSE3 performance on Opteron. The result is not that impressive but there is room for improvement as you will read if you dare clicking here. Let's now give a big hand to Bokill for sending the perfect page for all those scared of buying a counterfeit AMD CPU. The page also include a shot of a fake the PIB Athlon that spread in Germany few months ago like you will see here . Thanks to McNealy's commitment, SUN is shining brighter everyday on Opteron's future. IT Jungle has an insightful article about this love affair here. This is worrying Intel's boss Otellini to the point he had to blog it away: "While I hate losing share, the reality is that our competitor (AMD) has a very strong product offering": Wow! Big hug to Silicon Valley for posting that here. Now that we are in a funny mood let's end up with a deserved laugh at the Crazy Patents we have here. The 5175517 is our favorite... Chose yours and good day all! ____________________________________________ 02/16/05 - Lance Armstrong, SUN, Opteron vs. Xeon, etc. After signing up with Team Discovery, AMD-sponsored Lance Armstrong is going for a 7th victory in World Famous Tour de France and Google has a handful of headlines for this here while we have updated the Lance page here with some interesting stuff. Talking of breaking record, let's not forget the SUN's latest smashing scores at the SPEC Benchmarks which show an impressive improvement when optimized by PathScale EKOPath compilers here. Opteron is obviously the big LinuxWorld star and Anandtech here is taking this opportunity to confront our champ to the Xeon challenger. To counter Turion's threat Intel has a new - not fanless - Centrino ready for action as shown in the excellent HWZone here. To end up with another challenger let us recommend you the excellent report about the latest multicore baby coming from Sony & IBM. Made for the Playstation3 This chip is made of 234millions transistors and its incredible architecture is worth the interesting read Max at PC stats here is offering us. ____________________________________________ 02/15/05 - HP, SUN, et al. demoed dual-core AMD Opteron AMD again displayed the strength of the AMD64 dual-core ecosystem with four dual-core AMD Opteron processor technology demonstrations on existing partner server and workstation platforms at LinuxWorld Boston. Demonstrated systems include a Cray XD1 supercomputer; the HP xw9300 Workstation powered by two dual-core AMD Opteron processors along with NVIDIA SLI dual PCI Express technology; the record-breaking HP ProLiant DL585 using four dual-core processors; and a Sun Fire V40z server powered by four dual-core AMD Opteron processors. First the release of 252 and 852 along with new chipset 8132 PCI-X 2.0 Tunnel is generating a load of Google headlines here, while The Register here has some hot information of a massive price cut on Opteron lineup that is surely going to hurt Intel. Talking of Opteron, we're also impressed to see a list of 34 90nm designs in the Quick Reference Guide here. Cray is not resting either and, beating the numbers on the HPC scale here, supercomputer master also announced here a big XD1 Opteron supercomputer win in Italy. But that 's not all! On the Linux Conference first day, HP is revealing no less than 4 new servers sporting Opteron 252 and 852 "with dual-core in mind" as revealed in Internet News here with SUN microsystems not far behind with another big Opteron announcement right here. Stay tuned for more... ____________________________________________ Older news here - Comments, suggestions, links here |
