- HP to announce Opteron-based servers
ComputerWorld is first on this huge news: "In taking this step, HP joins IBM, which began shipping Opteron-based servers last year, and Sun Microsystems Inc., which recently unveiled its own Opteron-based servers. Sun has also entered into a broader agreement with AMD to develop application support for the chip. A key feature of Opertron is its ability to run 64-bit as well as 32-bit applications. ". New Scientist has a long article on buffer overflow bugging
WIndows and how AMD is helping Microsoft with new generation chips: "Chip makers are planning a new generation of microprocessors that should plug the gaps that led Microsoft to issue a "critical security alert" last week... ...AMD's Athlon-64 (for PCs) and Opteron (for servers) will protect against buffer overflows when used with a new version of Windows XP". Tyan today released the latest in dual 64-bit processor based 1U rackmount server system, the Transport GX28 (B2882).  Tested and validated by AMD, the AMD Opteron processor based Transport GX28 (B2882) is designed for compute-intensive graphics applications and memory-bound applications in High Power Computing. The Transport GX28 (B2882) is currently sampling and will reach mass production by March.

- Linus on Intel: SHAME!!!
Linux father Linus Torvald has his opinion about the way Intel mentioned AMD when talking of 64-Bit extensions and it's spelled S-H-A-M-E! "Actually, I'm a bit disgusted at Intel for not even _mentioning_ AMD in their documentation or their releases, so I'd almost be inclined to rename the thing as "AMD64" just to give credit where credit is due. According to Game Daily, Infinium Labs held a press conference today saying they are upset with HardOCP over an article called “Behind the Phantom Console” published in September 2003. Now Infinium Labs legal counsel is sending a letter asking HardOCP to remove the "offending" article you might still enjoy here while it's still online....

- AMD Displays Athlon 64 FX-53
"According to a report from Germany-based web-site tecCHANNEL, AMD is demonstrating the Athlon FX-53 central processing unit in a system with a beta version of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Extended Systems installed. According to AMD, the AMD64 technology allows to boost performance in Far Cry game by about 30% ".
