Equally important, however, is the platform: there's a total of 11 chipsets, from KT133 to nForce2, which have contributed much to the success of socket A Athlon. THG here put these chipsets in a side-by-side comparison in order to take a look at the progress made with regard to the platform. ======================================= 03/04/03 - DDR333 and DDR433 reviews More DDR333 and DDR433 coming in today: OCZ PC2700 EL Dual Channel: 1Gb Dual Channel DDR Kit at ClubOC 2x 256MB Kit at PCstats OCZ Dual Channel PC3200 EL at TweakTown GeIL PC3500 256MB Ultra Platinum at Envy News ======================================= 03/03/03 - Abit NF7-M nForce2 motherboard The Abit NF7-M nForce2 IGP motherboard with integrated GeForce4 MX has arrived in Japan as report in Akiba2Go! here. That's exactly what HardwareZone did here and the conclusion isn't really to endanger the old timers' supremacy: "When it comes to performance, there's little we can comment as it does not even come close to beating the Via KT400. Although it did perform rather well in Winstone and SYSmark 2002, it unfortunately did not do so well in games. Gaming performance fell miserably below both the Via KT400 and nVidia nForce2 platforms". ======================================= 03/03/03 - Athlon XP 3200+ Barton core review Lost Circuits' Michael Schuette suspects the next Barton core athlon XP rated 3200+ to run at same speed than Athlon XP 3000+ thanks to a front side bus (FSB) at 400MHz. With this trick, the performance gain is quite noticeable (between 5 to 8%) and leave the CPU clock speed untouched. This is a brilliant demonstration that speed is not all and it's right here ======================================= 03/03/03 - New modders site! Direct from Digital-Daily, the Asus A7N8X review insists on the performances that go with a usual Asus' typical high price tag of 155$: "However, can't help pointing to several shortcomings of the boards, in particular, some BIOS flaws. Besides, the integrated audio runs intermittently - there seems to be a problem with the right drivers". Read the rest here ======================================= 03/03/03 - Mouse and CD-ROM tuning Nice little tuning stuff at the Mod Father where JohnL. transformed a CD-ROM into a windowed light show here and wisely use the LCD light of some bored mice to enlight there back the most exquisite way one can dream.
