03/08/04 -  Why AMD is in good position
Mellanie Holland at the IT Investors' Journal has done some research on AMD and her conclusion is a clear message to all shorts of the IT world: "AMD could be one of the best names to own in the semiconductor group, but I was waiting until after the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) before I pulled the trigger on buying the stock...   I could potentially see longs "gunning" AMD on this kind of news, so shorts should be prepared."". 03/04/04 - Webserver performance compared
One more great article from GamePC where Chris Connolly is building low costs servers from AMD and Intel to compares prices and performances:
"Clearly we've shown that the Opteron is a better processor for Apache web serving, and performance is extremely close all around in terms of IIS serving. Other tests around the web have shown the Opteron to be incredibly strong in the area of database server performance as well, which isn't really surprising given the Opteron's architecture.". Allowing a die shrink and therefore an increased production, the 90nm process is on every chip-makers lips and The Register has some hot information about  AMD's progress: "AMD's 90nm Athlon 64 and Opteron chips will start rolling off the company's Dresden production line in the second week of April, but you won't be able to buy a machine based on the parts until late Q3 / early Q4.". _____________________________________________

- AMD Opteron vs. Intel Xeon
Today Anand et al. are looking at database performance of the two tenors of server mass market and the conclusions will surely help many IT buyers to save lots of precious greens: "The Opteron 848 processors we tested are around 1/2 the price of Intel's 2MB L3 Xeon MPs and we have not seen retail data on how expensive the 4MB parts will be. In a 4-way configuration AMD's Opteron cannot be beat, and thus it is our choice for the basis for our new Forums database server". Need to know more? Read here!

- Windows XP SP2 Build 2082
We already know that Microsoft and AMD were closely working on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) but little did we know how it would look and, thank to IP Konfig, we have now a preview of this coming update : "The core of AMD’s Enhanced Virus Protection is the so-called NX bit in the page-translation tables that specifies whether instructions can be executed from the page. The capability is also available on Intel’s Itanium and Itanium 2 processors, but is not present in IA32e chips, such as Intel Pentium 4 E also known as Prescott". Enjoy Part 1 and Part 2
