03/15/04 - Opteron in Austrialia gaining momentum...
If you want to know what's the 64-bit situation in Australia then there is no better read  than ComputerWorld analysis:
"McIsaac said Intel's adoption of 64-bit extensions, “is an interesting and bold move by AMD and it’s the first time I’ve seen Intel follow someone else’s lead”. “The 64-bit extensions won’t be a barrier and will make sure Intel chips can grow in the data centre,” he said. McIsaac, although seeing a “very slow” Itanium uptake, believes HP’s decision to migrate to commodity processors for its systems is a good one. " . Read the whole rest right over here

- China: Intel's troubles good for AMD?
Chinese People's Daily has another take on Wi-Fi, WAPI, saga that might force Intel Centrino to stay away from China and reports that it could be a great opportunity for AMD which shows remarkable strengh in the new chip eldorado: "Karen Guo, vice president of AMD and general manager of AMD's China Branch, didn't speak of Intel's decision on Tuesday, it is learned that Guo also believes this to be a great opportunity for AMD. Days ago AMD suddenly geared up for the Chinese market by putting massive amount of its 64-bit CPU on the shelves". Enjoy more 'Chip'noiserie here

- Gaza wall goes to Sunnyvale Ca.
Intel Corp. drew swift condemnation from international human rights organizations and AMD executives yesterday following the company’s overnight construction of a ‘security barrier’ around AMD headquarters. Intel defended the covert action as necessary to guarantee that AMD’s superior 64-bit processors would not fall into the hands of rogue nations, terrorists, or families shopping for new computers... - Tyan motherboards around the corner...
Inquirer's Mario Rodrigues has done some great research about Tyan willingness to grab a giant chunk of Opteron server market with a top notch lineup of single, twin and quad motherboards which shows a clear advantage over anything Intel has to offer: "As an example of the savings that can be realized, when four 2.8 GHz Xeon MPs cost $14,768, IT decision makers won't be able to ignore the $6,056 price tag that AMD now asks for four of its 848 Opteron offerings - that's a $8,712 saving". - Prescott Dynamic Voltage info
Following HardOCP's steps, IANAG's Martin has decided to dig up the Prescott 4 voltage issue: "heat production of these processors is simply insane. If they were to keep the processor at 1.525v all of the time it would take way better cooling than any OEM would ever put in their systems. We all heard enough about Intel's struggles to go to the 90nm process and the delay the prescott and other products saw because of this. I don't believe they really fixed the issues they were having. I believe they used a bandaid and shipped it out anyway! ". Read and join the talk here

- AMD64 Clone maker found an "original"  name
The Register has a naming contest for Intel Xeon 64Bit technology that will mimic AMD64 instruction set  and Intel joined the competition with an entry that will delight the world's most hermetic poets: "Congratulations on a stunning entry! EM64T sounds a lot like RU-486 or some other bitter pill. And the 64-bit extension versions of Xeon have been hard for Intel to swallow after rival AMD beat Chipzilla to market with the technology.". - AMD files 10-K Annual Report Form
AMD today filed the 10-K Annual Report for fiscal year 2003. This long document gives all the financial  numbers and lots of interesting details about the company: "Computation Products net sales of $1,960 million in 2003 increased 12 percent compared to net sales of $1,756 million in 2002. The increase in net sales was primarily due to a 15 percent increase in microprocessor unit shipments due primarily to increased demand from our OEM customers, partially offset by a decline of four percent in the average selling prices of our microprocessor products. Unit shipment growth was particularly strong in Latin America and China, which accounted for 77 percent of overall unit growth". Get it here
