- Spansion files for IPO
Spansion, the flash memory venture of AMD (NYSE:AMD) and Fujitsu (TSE:6702), today announced it has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its class A common stock. The number of shares to be offered and the estimated price range for the common stock have not been determined. Read more here

- AMD reports first quarter results
AMD today reported sales of $1.227 billion and an operating loss of $46 million for the quarter ended March 27, 2005.  The first quarter net loss of $17 million amounted to $0.04 per share. First quarter sales decreased one percent compared to the first quarter of 2004 and decreased three percent from the fourth quarter of 2004.  In the first quarter of 2004, AMD reported sales of $1.236 billion and net income of $45 million, or $0.12 per diluted share.  In the fourth quarter of 2004, AMD reported sales of $1.264 billion and a net loss of $30 million, or $0.08 per share. - Red Hat tests Dual-Core support
Few days before the big Opteron Dual-Core release, Red Hat is making the final test on an updated version that will fit Opteron as well as Intel's Xeon and Itanic. "Red Hat told customers Friday that the beta version of the first update to RHEL 4 includes support for both Advanced Micro Devices' and Intel's dual-core processors".. Read at CNET here

04/11/05 - Dual core Opteron preview on dual Tyan board
Hong Kong site HKEPC has a couple
Dual-Core Opteron "Egypt" rated 866 tested against  various 848 configurations and the preliminary datas look rather good. On a Tyan Thunder K8WE S2895 dual-Opteron board sporting nForce Pro chipset, the two processors are recognized by the Award BIOS, and CPU-Z as being four logical CPU from #0 to #3. The Opteron 866's frequency is said to be 2.2GHz with stepping E0 (SSE3 and 90nm). Check it out Here

04/08/05 - Turion 64 arrived in Japan
Our dear PC Watcher in Akihabara has a couple pictures of the Turion 64 which is announcing a massive invasion starting next week. The puppy's OPN is TMSMT30BQX5LD which new structure reveals its specification which are: MT30 for 25W consumption at a nominal frequency of 1.6GHz. According to the source, the chip made in 90nm also sports SSE3, PowerNow!, 3DNow!, HyperTransport at 800MHz and more as explained here

- 65mm process working at Fab36
More good news from Tom Sonderman AMD's director of APM technologies regarding
65mm on 300mm wafer process that is well on track at Dresden AMD's Fab36: "One of the big advantages of our Automated Precision Manufacturing system is that we can take 90-nm on 200-mm data from Fab30, 65-nm on 300-mm data from East Fishkill and see the commonalities and apply them to Fab36". - Dual core Opteron launch in New York
Now it's getting official and CNET has all the requested details about the
dual core Opteron launch on the 21st of April in NYC: "In an attempt to encourage rapid adoption, AMD will sell some of the new chips at the same prices as the corresponding single-core models they'll replace, a source familiar with the products said. The company is expected to first release its high-end and more expensive 800 series Opterons, which are geared for servers with four or eight chips, with lower-end 200 series models coming in May". - 1100 Opteron supercomputer for Swiss CSCS
In a joint initiative with Switzerland's Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI), CSCS has ordered a Cray XT3 system with 1100 AMD Opteron processors and peak performance of 5.9 trillion calculations per second (teraflops). When the new system, nicknamed "Horizon," begins operating in mid-2005, it will be one of Europe's most powerful supercomputers and will boost CSCS' computing capability more than five-fold.
