- Intel cancels 2 chip projects
Panic and Despair are probably the next big designs Intel will make to solve the messy roadmap described in a fascinating article from Centre Daily: "If the replacement chips arrive on schedule, Intel could prosper and even gain an edge over its competitors. But if they don't, the company could suffer billions of dollars in lost revenues and lose business to rivals such as Advanced Micro Devices, IBM and Sun Microsystems.". Read it here

- Hidden Message of WinHEC
Things are moving fast on the 64-Bit front and when it comes to Microsoft's plans, Rob Enderle has an interesting read that bodes rather well for AMD: "While NX is probably the most powerful argument for 64-bit computing today, because we are all scared half to death about security, it isn't the only reason Microsoft is excited about 64-bit platforms. There are other aspects that have the company champing at the bit to make the move.". Enjoy it Here

- Media PC... AMD is waking up!
For those willing to keep a PC in the living room, AMD and InterVideo are now working on what was considered to be the key problems: Noise, first, due to cooling and, second, instant response from a PC that does not need to boot up to be able to play all sort of medias. Reed-Electronics has a lot to say about that and it all starts here: "An InstantON PC features a dual-boot configuration. Users can bring the machine to life for multimedia activities without loading the Windows operating system, InterVideo says. The software contains LinDVD, a Linux implementation used in CE devices, which integrates BIOS, OS, power-management, and noise-control features along with InterVideo's playback, recording, and editing software". Great read!

- Gates calls for 64-bit software support
WinHEC 2004 sponsors list here shows that AMD is guest star this year and Bill Gates in a CNET interview is sending a clear message about Microsoft willingness to garanty a smooth transition from 32 to 64-Bit: "Despite Microsoft's enthusiasm, the timing of the transition to 64-bit has been widely debated. AMD and some game developers have said it will begin to occur in late 2004 and 2005. Ubisoft and Epic Games have already re-engineered their games to work on 64-bit systems and AMD executives have said application retrofitting is actually fairly easy". Read here
