| earlier news here _______________________________________________ 06/29/05 - AMD Japan sues Intel KK too The suit in the Tokyo High Court seeks US$50 million in damages, following on the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC)’s findings in its March 8, 2005 Recommendation that Intel KK committed violations of the Antimonopoly Act. The JFTC Recommendation concluded that Intel KK interfered with AMD Japan’s business activities by providing large amounts of funds to five Japanese PC manufacturers (NEC, Fujitsu, Toshiba, Sony, and Hitachi) on the condition that they refuse to purchase AMD processors. Read the rest here _______________________________________________ 06/28/05 - New 10 Gigabit Ethernet Record Today Neterion Inc., announced that Xframe(R) II, an adapter based on the PCI-X 2.0 bus architecture with Double Date Rate technology, used AMD Opteron processors to set a new record for network bandwidth. The performance testing was conducted and monitored in AMD's performance labs in Austin, TX. Uni-directional traffic sustained a level of ~9.86 Gigabits per second, virtually reaching the nominal line-rate of 10 Gigabit Ethernet, to easily eclipse the earlier record of ~7.7 Gbps held by Neterion. At ~14.5 Gbps, bi-directional traffic rates nearly doubled the previous number. More here _______________________________________________ 06/28/05 - AMD Files Antitrust Complaint Against Intel AMD announced that it filed an antitrust complaint against Intel Corporation in U.S. federal district court for the district of Delaware. The 48-page complaint explains in detail how Intel has unlawfully maintained its monopoly in the x86 microprocessor market by engaging in worldwide coercion of customers from dealing with AMD. It identifies 38 companies that have been victims of coercion by Intel – including large scale computer-makers, small system-builders, wholesale distributors, and retailers, through seven types of illegality across three continents. Read more here _______________________________________________ 06/24/05 - Fuel cell to power laptop for more than 8 hours The Mobile PC Extended Battery Life Working Group today released its Fuel Cell Guidelines for Mobile PCs. The guidelines cover all mechanical, electrical, thermal, control, environmental and regulatory aspects of fuel cells for mobile computers. This will mean that the retail release of Bet on Soldier: Blood Sport will not only feature a normal 32-bit version, but also the full on 64-bit version all part of one package. Read more about all this and check for download material here _______________________________________________ 06/22/05 - New supercomputers overhaul top ranks Interesting read today at CNET regardind the newest 500 Supercomputer's list at Top500.org where IBM is gaining ground against falling star Itanium: "AMD built the Opteron processors used in the No. 10 system, a new machine called Red Storm built by Cray for Sandia National Laboratories. It was clocked at 15.2 teraflops, but Sandia spokesman said the full system isn't expected to be running until sometime before October". Enjoy that here _______________________________________________ 06/22/05 - Cray inked a new Opteron contract Cray Inc. today announced that Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) has ordered a Cray XD1 supercomputer. AWI selected the Cray XD1 system to run advanced polar and marine research applications related to climate and environmental studies, including global circulation models, regional atmospheric models and others. The new Cray system has been installed and taken into production at AWI's facility in Bremerhaven. Read more here _______________________________________________ 06/22/05 - Dual-core Opteron servers coming at HP The good news is coming from ZDNet here and it shows HP's commitment to promote AMD Opteron platform: "The dual-core chips will be available in lower-end systems with two chip sockets: the DL385, with a starting price of $3,299, the DL145 G2, which starts at $1,219; and the BL25p and BL35p blade servers, which start at $3,099 and $2,599, respectively.
