Earlier news here ____________________________________________ 06/25/04 - More Opteron servers from Sun Just announced at The Register here, Sun has plan to release a 4-way Opteron V40Z and a new server code- named Metropolis: "On July 13, Sun will roll out a new Opteron-based workstation code-named Metropolis. A short while later, Sun will also roll out a 4-way Opteron server - the V40z. These two new boxes along with Sun's existing V20z 2-way server were all designed by Newisys". ____________________________________________ 06/25/04 - Fujitsu Systems Europe chose Opteron AMD announced that Fujitsu Systems Europe (FSE) has chosen AMD Opteron processor-based cluster solutions for its first worldwide enterprise center in Toulouse, France. In response to increasing requests for access to AMD Opteron processor-based systems in Europe, FSE has put together the world's first fully AMD Opteron processor-based lab designed to meet the demanding application testing and benchmarking needs of enterprise users and software partners. The AMD Japanese Engineering Lab hasn't started yet and Athlon 64 notebooks are already popping up like daffodils in spring! The first baby EDiCube F550H/P, sporting a nForce Go150 Chipset, is coming from Epson Direct and the second, Mebius PC-AL90G, with a VIA K8N800 chipset with integrated graphics, is from the Sharp company, one of AMD Japan best friend ;) Enjoy them all here ____________________________________________ 06/24/04 - AMD new mobile lab in Tokyo AMD is doing extremely well in desktop and server but we must observe this is not the case in the mobile area where Intel Centrino concept is gobbling the lion's share. To end up the bleeding, AMD has opened an engineering laboratory housed in AMD Japan's Tokyo headquarters where 15 to 20 engineers will be hired over the next 12 to 18 months. The Japan Engineering Lab initially will be managed by Steve Polzin, Sr. AMD Fellow and Chief Platform Architect. Microsoft evangelism is now running at full speed when it comes to 64-Bit processing need as reported in two Japanese coverage of the latest Redmond Giant seminar in Japan. We're going after mass storage," said Cambou. "We're going after the NAND market using the same basic Mirrorbit technology. It's easy to design NAND using Mirrorbit." The justices, by a 7-1 vote, upheld a ruling that could require Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, to produce documents from an old antitrust case for use by the European Commission as it investigates AMD's complaint that Intel has abused its dominant market power in Europe. ____________________________________________ 06/21/04 - AMD very funny Prescott Survival Kits To celebrate Prescott release, AMD has been sending out some really cool first aid press kits to protect all testers against new Intel's dog's bites: '"The kit includes an oven mitt to protect your hands if you decide to take Prescott out of your computer, a small clip-on fan with a USB connection and ear plugs to block the noise from any big cooling fans you may have on your PC". Building on an impressive debut on the TOP500 list in November 2003, AMD Opteron processor-based systems appear three times among the top 20 on the most recent list. The latest version of sensing programme MBM is now out and has lot of improvements that explain the long delay since the previous version. The most notable changes are surely the new IO driver, which will give support for both 32 and 64 bit Windows version and Abit Uguru support which, according to Alex van Kaam the author, has not been yet implemented in any other programme other than Abit.ones. With 1 Terrabyte DDR400 memory and 52 Terrabyte worth of hard disks this is going to be the most powerful computer of Switerland with 2.322 Billion ops per second potential!
