AMD announced an expansion of its family of AMD Opteron processors with the new
AMD Opteron processor 800 Series, for 4-way and 8-way servers and the 100 Series, for 1-way servers and workstations. The new AMD Opteron processors join the AMD Opteron processor 200 Series launched in April 2003. AMD Opteron processors are designed to enable an easy migration to 64-bit computing for enterprise and small and medium businesses as their needs require, while maintaining backward compatibility with 32-bit applications. 06/28/03 - Thorton on AMD's processors  list
A look at recommended motherboards at AMD
here, says the inquirer, bring the final answer to the Thorton mystery. The 256KB L2 processor is listed as Model 10 with 266MHz FSB and rated 2000+, 2200+, 2400+. We still don't know what is going the commercial name of the product but many are speculating that Thorton will replace the aging Duron 1.2GHz and 1.3GHz.

- Athlon 64 family to grow
"The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chipmaker will launch the Athlon 64 with performance ratings of 3400+ and 3100+ in September and then crank the top performance rating up to 3700+ in the fourth quarter, according to sources. By the end of next year, the performance rating is expected to rise to 4300+. Ratings roughly correspond to the clock speeds of Intel chips, so that a 3100+ chip is more or less equivalent to a 3.2GHz Pentium 4". Read CNET here

dual-Opteron motherboard with AGP: the Arima Rioworks HDAMB which is selling with SATA for 49700Yen (416$) and 47900Yen (401$) without (HDMAB WO). The translated report with some photos is waiting right here.
