European resellers have been officially informed today of a big price list shake-up along with special offers starting as soon as July 25th. The price changes concern all Athlon X2, Athlon 64 from 3500+ to 4000+, Opteron 100 and 200 series from X44 to X52, All Turion 64 ML & MT except MT40, and mobile Sempron 25W (2800+,3000+, 3200+) & 62W (2600+ to 3500+). Check that here and enjoy more roadmappery here ______________________________________________ 07/20/05 - Socket 1207 to integrate DDR2 and PCI-Express We had strongs hints that AMD would integrate DDR2 and PCI-Express in a socket 1207 supercharged Athlon 64, and today the inquirer has some more information regarding PCIe itself: "That one is easy, you integrate PCIe onto the chip. Latency for just about everything takes another huge whack, and everything from video to 10 GigE gets faster. For the home, you get more frames and better graphics responsiveness.". Read more at the inquirer here ______________________________________________ 07/19/05 - Oracle Changes Controversial Licensing Policy After charging two license per core for all version used with multi-core processors, Oracle is now adjusting to competitors with a discount of 1/4 per core that works only for CPUs with more than two cores: "Oracle has now announced on it Web site that each core will count as 0.75 processors. A database running on a single server with one quadruple-core processor will therefore require three processor licenses. Fractions will be rounded up, so a dual-core processor still requires two licenses.". Read more here ______________________________________________ 07/18/05 - US DoD to Use HP Opteron Supercomputer US Department of Defense (DoD) will be using an HP supercomputer for advanced weapons systems design research. The powerful HP Cluster Platform 4000 system will be installed in September at the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) Major Shared Resource Center (MSRC) based at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. The HP supercomputer is a 1,024-node Cluster Platform 4000 based on HP ProLiant DL145 servers with AMD Opteron running the Linux operating system. Read more here _______________________________________________ 07/17/05 - HP adopts AMD Turion 64 for Business Laptops Looks like the latest lawsuit is helping AMD to ink more and more business contracts. After Fujitsu-Siemens announced few days ago, it now HP's turn to add AMD in its business lineup:"AMD is expected to announce today that they have got an entry into the corporate notebook market by enticing Hewlett-Packard into using their processors for their products. HP is now planning to use AMD Turion 64 in the Compaq NX range of business computers.". Read here _______________________________________________ 07/14/05 - Intel allows OEMs to use AMD chips! The lawsuit effect did not take long to show up as reported at DigiTimes today. Citing Chinese press, the source reveals that, Intel has allowed OEMs to use AMD processors in their PCs lineup: " Sources in the PC industry hinted that Intel has informed its OEM customers that they are allowed to adopt AMD processors in products that are usually based on Intel CPUs". The short news is here _______________________________________________ 07/12/05 - EU officials raid U.S. chipmaker Intel, others U.S chipmaker Intel Corp., computer makers and distributors were raided by European Commission and local officials on Tuesday as part of an ongoing investigation into possible antitrust violations, a spokesman for the European Union executive said. "DG Competition officials, accompanied by officials from national competition authorities are conducting inspections of several premises of Intel Corp. in Europe as well as a number of IT firms manufacturing or selling computers," spokesman Jonathan Todd said. _______________________________________________ 07/12/05 - Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo with AMD Inside AMD today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering a new line of professional PCs based on Athlon 64 processors. The ESPRIMO P and ESPRIMO E series targets business users in small, medium and large enterprises. The full line of ESPRIMO solutions will be available from Fujitsu Siemens Computers in regions including Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The 90nm E revision of the highly successful Athlon 64 has SSE3 instruction set support and, according to AnandTech, an unofficial enhanced memory controller capable of sporting faster DDR up to 500MHz! "AMD obviously didn’t speak much about support for these higher speed DRAM options, mainly because they are not official specs, and thus, AMD doesn’t officially support them". Read more here _______________________________________________ 07/08/05 - AMD expected to post quarterly loss Due to deteriorating selling prices for flash-memory used in cell phones and DVD players, AMD is expected to post a 6cent loss for Q2: "AMD, which reports earnings July 13, is expected to lose 6 cents a share on revenue of $1.2 billion, according to analysts polled by Thomson First Call. That compares with a profit of 9 cents a share on revenue of $1.26 billion in the year-ago period". AMD designed the Sempron for budget-priced systems aimed at consumers and other cost-conscious buyers.".
