08/12/04 - AMD's Ruiz Sees 64-Bit Surge Ahead
Always good to read an
AMD's leader Hector Ruiz interview. Today it's all about 64-Bit inroad in enterprise: "Today, we're at about a 5 percent share of the enterprise [for Opteron servers]. I expect a year from now we're going to have a double digit share in the enterprise. I also believe that the trickle-down effect will accelerate to the client. So a year from now, we expect to start seeing the first enterprise applications of 64-bit clients". Enjoy at VAR Business here

Citigroup Smith Barney has a complete report on flash market and give some insights about its company valuation
"AMD has increased its market share to become the largest supplier of NOR flash which is used predominately for cellular handsets. Should handset demand continue
to be robust, with increasing NOR density needed for functionality in next generation cell phones and AMD is able to continue to gain market share, the shares could outperform our target price. "

- AMD64 is the Force behind Star Wars
AMD announced that AMD Opteron processor-based servers and workstations are providing the digital backbone for the final Star Wars prequel, Episode III: "Revenge of the Sith." The AMD64 digital processing pipeline at JAK Films, the production company for Star Wars: Episode III, includes pre-visualization and pre-postproduction, which involves 3-D match moving, 3-D modeling, lighting, shading, texturing, compositing and rendering techniques. - AMD releases Athlon 64 3400+ Mobile
AMD today announced the release of 2 new mobile processors. The main one, Athlon 64 3400+, is already powering some HP design while second one, Athlon XP-M 2000+, is joining Averatec Tablet PC C3500 Series convertible lineup. The Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+ and the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+ are priced at $432 and $97, respectively. Read more here

- Sun give birth to 64-bit Solaris on Opteron
A report from The Register states that a 64-Bit Sun Solaris version 10 is now up and running on AMD Opteron but won't be fully ready until next year:  ".For the first time, the engineers managed to get a true 64-bit kernel up and running on an Opteron box. This is a key milestone in Sun's ambitious plan to make Solaris a preferred operating system in the x86 world". The rest is here
