Alineos, rumored to be the hottest
Opteron distributor in Europe, has quietly updated a truckload of scientific benchmarks comparing Opteron 32bit talents with Apple G4, Athlon XP, Xeon and Itanium 2. The benchmarks include calculation-intensive babies like Amber, BLAST, CHARMM, Scimark2.0 and more as you may see here

07/30/03 - VT64 Opteron Clusters arrived!
Japan's Visual Technology Limited introduced today its
new VT64 cluster with no less than 64 Opterons. The first version with 64
Opteron 244 has been delivered to Doshisha University for the sake of analysing the structure of proteins. The Opteron cluster, that was chosen for its excellent price-to-perfomance ratio, is said to reach 512 Opterons very soon for a nominal speed of 1TFLOPS.

"Second-tier motherboard makers expect their July revenues to grow an average of 10-20% from June.
Albatron will ship between 80,000-90,000 graphics cards and 50,000-60,000 motherboards this month, generating more than NT$400 million in revenues, up 43% from June, according to the company"

new price list where price cuts mainly target value server CPU's like Opteron 144 now at 438$ from 669$ (-35%) and Athlon MP from 275$ to 230$
(-16%). Prices of

"In the next two years, either Intel will ship a 64-bit desktop chip or it will lose the majority of its consumer and business market," Sweeney says. "If I was in Intel's position, I would be working...to get a 64-bit chip ready, but in the meantime, I would be downplaying the importance of 64 bits".

- Opteron to power Chinese Dawning 4000A
AMD announced today that it has reached an agreement with Dawning Information Industry Corp. Ltd. of China to include Dawning’s plans to use the AMD Opteron processor to build the fastest supercomputer in China. The Dawning 4000A supercomputer is planned to run at maximum speeds in excess of 10 trillion operations per second, or 10 Tflops. It is also expected to be the first supercomputer made in China to be considered among the most powerful in the world. Read AMD PR here
