08/04/03 - Dual Opteron board running with one chip
Having to run a single
Opteron on a dual board isn’t impossible and Tobias Burkert is going to prove it in a short article you may find here. The test is conducted with the first AGP dual-Opteron motherboard that reached the marketplace a month ago: the Arima Riowork HDAMB

08/04/03 - Siggraph 2003 at San Diego coverage
"AMD's Siggraph booth was showcasing workstations based on
AMD's Opteron, from reputable resellers like Alienware and BOXX.  In addition, over at the nVidia booth, the  representative we talked to proudly announced that all of the demonstrations workstations were powered by the AMD Opteron and nVidia's nForce3 chipset.  This comes to show the power and influence of AMD's Opteron since its release in April 2003.  Hopefully this will eventually translate to wide-spread appeal for the AMD64, but from what we were told, Windows XP 64-bit is slated for sometime in 2004." 08/04/03 - Arima A520 K8 first Athlon 64 Laptop
Thanks to Alex, we have now
here the final specification of the first Athlon 64 laptop. The A520 K8 is coming from Arima, the maker of some of the most desirable Opteron motherboards, the Riowork HDAMA and HDAMB. Obviously, Arima is willing to bank on big names reluctancy to invest in AMD64 technology and this is surely how small companies grow at big ones' expense... A true lesson! Thanks...

08/01/03 - Huge PSU roundup at AnandTech
The choice of the right power supply unit is very important. Providing the necessary energy, this forgotten PC lung, can be very noisy and unsufficient for all kind of ordeal Mister PC might encounter. Sudden voltage peak, increase workload, excessive ambient temperature and other factors have an influence on PSU's behavior. Chosing the perfect one is far from simple and AnandTech has done here, a good part of the job with a massive PSU roundup where  stars (except our favorite the newest Global Win SAF320 running at a cool 22dBA) are showing their talents... Great!

07/31/03 - Tyan unveils its barebones
"While Tyan is traditionally known for the mainboards and graphics cards it pushes through distributors Altec, Rectron and Digicor, its latest strategy is to combine these products in what is almost a complete rack-mounted server solution... The manufacturer has spent the last 12 months developing the ‘Barebone’ products, which began shipping in May. What most excites Tyan, however, is that within a month it will be able to make available a Barebone system that supports AMD’s new Opteron 64-bit server computing platform. ". Read more here

07/31/03 - More benchmarks show Opteron supremacy
Another top French integrator,
Dataswift,  has done its homework in testing Opteron in real life thermohydraulics applications. The results are impressive: Dual Opteron 244 is on par with QUAD XEON at 2.4GHz, 2X faster than DUAL XEON at 2.4GHz in 32Bit and 2.4X faster in 64Bit (First benchmark  in 64Bit even though it's still under NDA!). The report also praises AMD's offspring for its stability, low temperature, and the high performance reached with software not even optimized for AMD64. Test 1 is here, Test 2 here, the conclusIon in a French PDF here translated here (note that waiter in the translation means server)
