A day after VIA released its latest Hyperion, ATI is following with version 4.8 Catalyst drivers that provide fully qualified display support for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 systems with Radeon display cards, but requires a special version of ATI's Video Capture (WDM) drivers for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 systems with All-in-Wonder boards, which will be provided by your computer manufacturer. 08/17/04 - AMD Ships 90nm products for revenue
AMD announced that it is achieving a smooth transition to
90 nanometer (nm) manufacturing and has shipped low-power 90nm Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors for thin and light notebooks (previously codenamed "Oakville") for revenue. Manufacturers are expected to launch systems based on the new 90nm Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors in the coming months. Read the whole here

First release since December 2003 the 4.53v VIA Hyperion  drivers includes an update of the inf file from 2.00a to 2.20a. 2.20a adds ids for upcoming chipsets K8T890. The new Hyperions also include an updated AGP driver to version 4.43ap1 and can be downloaded right

After advising to avoid all non-AMD buy in a controversial blog located here, David Berlind is now responding to many people asking him what changed to make him reach such conclusion: "Yes, Intel has been caught with its pants down for the second time this year. - Dell exits low-end China consumer PC market
Reuters has some impressive news regarding low end PC market in
China where the duo Lenovo-AMD has forced Dell to back out from this emerging-fast market: "IDC has forecast that the China PC market will grow about 19 percent this year. Shipments last year reached about 13 million units, with Lenovo commanding more than a quarter of the market and Founder at about 10 percent". Read here

08/13/04 - AMD: Quad-core for 2007!
Using 65nm production at Fab 36 Dresden, AMD could be offering quad-core solution as soon as 2007 reports i-hub from information released by analyst firm Goldmann Sachs: " Recall that AMD is doing the 65nm technology development jointly with IBM, and estimates that it is about 70% done. In addition, the joint process development and our checks have suggested that IBM and its SOI (Silicon on Insulator) process, are the most likely foundry partners for AMD should it choose to go more fully toward a fab-light model in 2005 and beyond". Virtual Zone Visionary has sent us some information regarding Revision E of AMD64 core with dual core support for both socket 939 & 940 and major improvements like SSE3 implementation and better mismatched DIMM support: "The 940-pin for server supports up to 8 registered DDR400 while the 939-pin for client supports up to 4 unbuffered DDR400". - Sun Goes Nuclear with New Cluster
DoE has chosen AMD-SUN cluster made of 230 V20z for a 2 trillion FLOPs supercomputer to run at Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL): "For Sun, the contract is one of its largest for the Sun Fire V20z machine clusters. It is also a coup over rival IBM, who has been busy itself of late, shoring up supercomputing contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense.". More here
