In a 16-processor Opteron server, for example, cache coherency would be accomplished by cross traffic between the four Horus chips assigned to the four quads of processors". here ____________________________________________ 08/26/04 - Sun outperforms worldwide server growth In the second quarter of 2004, Sun Microsystems, Inc. achieved significant revenue and volume growth in almost every category. Sun outperformed all vendors in revenue market share growth on a quarter-to-quarter (Q/Q) basis including All OS, UNIX+Linux and UNIX, as reported in the 2Q04 Worldwide Server Database report by Gartner Dataquest, released this week. Year on year, Sun outpaced all competitors in unit shipment growth at 38.4%, and gained market share against key rivals. Read more here ____________________________________________ 08/25/04 - Microsoft’s XP Professional X64 Edition Chris Connolly from Game PC is testing Build 1218 of Microsoft’s 64-bit Windows system and the findings are worth a read: "We did notice that our Opteron platforms have much broader driver compatibility compared to our Xeon setups. All of the onboard devices on our Opteron board, such as LAN, SCSI, and audio had native XP 64-bit drivers, whereas none of these components had 64-bit drivers for our Xeon platform". The first two systems released under the ThinkTank Q-Station X-Way Series are the ThinkTank Q-Station X2+2 and the ThinkTank Q-Station X4. The X2+2 features two AMD Opteron 200 Series Processors, 2 Infiniband interconnects integrated on an Iwill motherboard and supports up to 16GB of memory (8GB per processor).
