09/23/03 - Microsoft Releases Beta XP for AMD 64-bit!
"Today, Microsoft announced that it is extending its 64-bit version of Windows XP to support AMD's new 64-bit microprocessor architecture, dubbed AMD64, and is publicly releasing a beta version of the OS. Windows XP 64-Bit Edition for 64-Bit Extended Systems, as the OS is called, targets AMD's Athlon 64 and Opteron processors, which support full 64-bit capabilities as well as full-speed backwards compatibility with 32-bit Intel x86-based chips, a feature Intel's 64-bit Itanium chips lack". 09/19/03 - AMD CEO Looks Ahead
"The Microsoft support has been outstanding. Microsoft has just been totally committed to helping this technology become a reality sooner rather than later. As a matter of fact a lot of their products they envisioned for their hardware side both for Opteron and Athlon 64 they've been looking at how to move them up and accelerate them.". 09/19/03 - Athlon 64 and AMD's 64-bit technology
"The Athlon FX is not supposed to be multi-processor compatible, but opinions are divided as to whether this is an actual rebranded Opteron processor... More likely, the Athlon FX is simply an Athlon 64 chip which passed all the tests well enough to meet the elevated requirements of processor and system bandwidth. We will have to wait for the release date to find out for sure". Check for more at PC stats here and enjoy more AMD64 links here

09/19/03 - Should x86 be kept alive?
"We heard from an excellent source that Intel wanted to include
64-bit extensions on the Pentium Pro (P6) micro-architecture. There are even rumours that these plans were already on the table when the Pentium (P5) was designed butwith the Pentium Pro the 64 bit x86 plans were very real." . Enjoy this at ACE's Hardware here

09/18/03 - AMD Research well ahead of expectations
AMD's unique design of  new triple-gate transistors using next-generation
silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and advanced metal gate technologies, delivers up to 50 percent better performance than any previously published multi-gate research.  This surpasses 2009 requirements set by the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS), but because the design is also highly compatible with current manufacturing techniques, AMD views this technology as a leading candidate for volume production as early as 2007. 09/17/03 - The Frontside Bus Bottleneck
"The main problem with FSB migration is that it really cannot occur in a vacuum," Greg Fawson, an analyst at Semico Research, told TechNewsWorld. "System designers really prefer to see a balanced platform where the FSB and the memory bus are in balance; AMD has been able to achieve this with their platforms." However, until recently, he said, Intel platforms were largely out of balance.". Read the rest at TechNewsWorld
