"About half of AMD's $2.6 billion in 2002 sales came from flash memory. Danely says its flash inventory is sold out through the end of the calendar year. Given that AMD recently bought of much of the flash manufacturing capacity it operated jointly with Fujitsu, Danely says it's possible that AMD could see flash sales jump by 100% in the third quarter. That could help AMD, Danely says, "flirt with profitability" in the fourth quarter, something it hasn't done since mid-2001". Michael at Lost Circuits has analyzed a handful of the new modules under various conditions and the results are surprising to say the least. Morgan! Analyst Christopher Danely at J.P. Morgan upgraded AMD to "neutral" from "underweight," citing evidence in Asia that demand for flash memory, used in cell phones, has been "much stronger than expected." The stock charged up 59 cents, or 5.3 percent, to $11.76. Danely noted that flash memory prices have stabilized for the first time in three years, and could increase in the first quarter of 2004, due to expectations of a shortage in the fourth quarter __________________________________________ 10/02/03 - Opteron and Athlon 64 awesome galleries Our friend Eunjun Jeong, from 2CPU.KR, just sent us links of the latest galleries he posted on his site and it's really worth a visit: MSI K8D MASTER-F - Rioworks HDAMA Rioworks HDAMB - ASUS SK8N - Opteron 240 - Tyan Thunder K8W - Asus K8V Deluxe __________________________________________ 10/02/03 - Forbest Semiconductor leaders' rating "In the semiconductor industry, Hector De Ruiz of AMD remains among the consistently least popular CEOs despite the recent run-up in his company's stockIn the semiconductor industry, Hector De Ruiz of Advanced Micro Devices remains among the consistently least popular CEOs despite the recent run-up in his company's stock. With many of the suppliers having already experienced high growth rates in August, most of the companies will see gains under 10%, but those with lower August revenue bases are expected to achieve higher growth of up to 25%. A shortage of graphic cards is also limiting shipments.". NVIDIA has tested them and determined they have very large clock jitter and fail the USB1.1 eye diagram requirements. Placing any of these devices behind a USB1.1 hub does not resolve this issue since the hub will not reclock, but will pass the jitter to the MCP. Depending upon the chip used in the USB device, a workaround or fix may be available. "It's been two years since Intel cheese Paul Otellini told an IDF that megahertz no longer mattered. Back then he said that rather than simply getting faster, chips should get smarter. He was talking then about Intel's Hyperthreading technology, and suggesting that the chips of the future would be multithreaded and multi-cored, making a slice of silicon 'smarter', rather than just cranking up the clock speed. The strategy, which was developed over a decade ago, stands in stark contrast to AMD's easy upgrade. ".
