Chips based on the K9 architecture will likely be released--at least in sample quantities--by the second half of 2005, Weber said. The project is being overseen by AMD engineer Randy Allen.". It seems that this is only possible with AMD processors that have the Cool'n'quiet feature included. Get CrystalCPUID here and, as usual, use it at your own risk ! __________________________________________ 10/15/03 - Transmeta Unveils New Processor "Like Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s Opteron processor, the Efficeon will integrate a memory controller, which will connect to DDR-400 memory. The processor will also contain an AGP 4X link to external graphics, as well as a HyperTransport connection to the so-called "south-bridge" components on a logic board". "The need to compete with a resurgent (Advanced Micro Devices) may have led Intel to rework the Prescott die...to scale to higher frequencies at launch. While many expected Prescott to launch at 3.4GHz, it's possible that Intel ran into speed problems or wanted to reach 3.6GHz at launch," Ashok Kumar, an analyst with U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray, wrote in an Oct. 13 report.... And that's at CNET here __________________________________________ 10/15/03 - Intel's absence at Microprocessor Forum "Morning session moderator Kevin Krewell, senior editor of the Microprocessor Report, commented on the relative positioning of Intel and AMD. in the movement from 32- to 64-bit desktop systems, compared to the previous decade's move from 16 to 32 bits. When Intel had the 386 chip, Krewell observed, and AMD had no equivalent, Intel promoted the need for 32-bit migration. Now that AMD has an upward-compatible 64-bit desktop solution and Intel does not, "the roles are totally reversed," he said." eWeek __________________________________________ 10/14/03 - Barebone and motherboard reviews of the day 1 - Shuttle SN85G4 Athlon 64 barebone at THG 2 - MSI K8T-Neo VIA K8T800 at HardOCP 3 - Leadtek K8N Pro nForce3 Pro150 at AMD zone 4 - __________________________________________ 10/14/03 - AMDboard's friends good read of the day: 1 - How to mount a Prometeia on AMD64 at MadShrimps 2 - Thermaltake Silent Boost K8 heatsink at A1-Electronics 3 - Airflow and Heat: A cooling guide at Short-Media 4 - Computex 2003 coverages at Digital-Daily 5 - Interim Release 5 of BIOS Optimization Guide at ARP 6 - Encryption and Online Privacy at PC stats __________________________________________ 10/14/03 - Bosh award Spansion Flash memory According to Planet 3DNow! giant firm Bosh Just awarded Spansion Flash with "Top Supplier Award". The OC-Database have at this time more than 5000 PC entries of about 9000 Community members where you're able to compare easily the overclocking results of current CPUs and their configurations. To keep these results clearly arranged you're able to filter the used cooler, frequency, CPU type and sort them by several criteria like overclocked CPU speed, Overclocking in %, Vcore, temperature, etc. It's here __________________________________________ 10/13/03 - ACER release an AMD Ferrari laptop Acer, Official Supplier to the Scuderia Ferrari racing team, announces the exclusive Ferrari 3000 notebook that perfectly combines the essence of two persistently avant-garde companies with its elegant design and technical features. Although support for 64-bit chips has been backported into version 2.4, "2.6 has been built from the ground up with support for 64-bit," Bates said. For example, the upcoming Linux kernel is optimized to run AMD's recently released Athlon 64-bit desktop chip. The biggest desktop-related changes in 2.6 are "the improved responsiveness of the CPU scheduler and decreased stalls of the whole system when under heavy disk load," Morton said.".
