- Sun rolls out much-awaited Solaris 10
Sun Microsystems on Sunday introduced the long-awaited next version of its operating system, Solaris 10, which the network computer maker is betting on to help bring itself back to sustained profitability. Sun said that Solaris 10, a version of the heavy-duty Unix operating system used by large computer data centers, banks, telecommunications firms and governments, cost more than $500 million in research and development. Sun claims more than 600 new features for Solaris 10. Reuters has more here

After years of speculation Info World reveals that AMD is nearer than ever to enter
Dell's servers and gaming computers: "Rollins pointed to AMD's technology lead on Intel in the 64-bit category as the primary reason for the shift in Dell's Intel-only strategy.  "They've been getting better and better. The technology is better. In some areas they're now in the lead on Intel. That is what is interesting us more than anything," he said". Read more here

Fluent Inc., the world's leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software solutions, announced today its support for the 32- and 64-bit

- AMD upped to buy from neutral at Merrill
Merrill Lynch raised its rating on AMD to buy from neutral with a $22 price target on the stock. "We believe that AMD is in the midst of a microprocessor product cycle that should allow the company to continue expanding profit margin and gaining market share against Intel for at least another year,in contrast, Intel's own microprocessor roadmap for the next twelve months looks troubled.".

AMD announced that the AMD Athlon 64 and Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processors have been named the "Editor's Choice" by VARBusiness magazine. The award was presented at the second annual Tech Innovator Awards show, where AMD also was recognized for outstanding achievement in technology innovation for the Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor 3400+.
