12/09/04 - Sauber Petronas F1 design team goes Opteron
Using technology provided by AMD, Formula One team Sauber Petronas today launched its new supercomputer at the team's headquarters in Hinwil, Switzerland.
This groundbreaking supercomputer, powered by more than 500
AMD Opteron processors and one of the most advanced in Formula One and the automotive industry, will act as the "brain" for the team's Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Center. Read more here

- AMD ships 90nm Opterons
As expected, AMD is now shipping the
90nm version of the 1xx, 2xx, 8xx Opteron and Register was first to wrote it out : "The news comes a day after AMD announced it intends to incorporate its PowerNow! power preservation system into upcoming Opteron chips. Those chips are due to ship during H1 2005, the company said". Read more here

- SIA: Semi sales reflect inventory corrections
Interesting SIA numbers in a short article that reveals the better than expected results thanks to good PC sales and inventory lightening: "Sales growth in all geographic regions except Japan was up sequentially in October, led by Europe with $3.46 billion in sales, up 3.5 percent over September’s $3.35 billion. - $8 Million order for Cray X1E and Cray XD1
Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. today reported an order valued at approximately $8 million from an unnamed international customer for a Cray X1E supercomputer and a Cray XD1 supercomputer. The two systems are scheduled to be installed in the first half of 2005. Read more here

- Dual AMD Socket 754 motherboard spotted!
Our friends from Madshimps have a news about Chinese Yahoo! auction site offering a dual-Socket 754 motherboard named Stratto 2 which could be made by AMD itself! "People hoping to have a cheap dual 64-bit CPU with this board might be disappointed to learn that the desktop version the A64 CPU's only work in single CPU configurations. On top of that it seems that the board does not have a BIOS.".  Enjoy the thing here
