Northeast Utilities, a Fortune 500 diversified energy company, has chosen and started to deploy the AMD XP processor-based Compaq D315 Business PC from HP as its desktop platform. Installation of the new platform at Northeast Utilities began in late October. Read here

- AMD convertible upped to 350M$
AMD convertible bond offering was upsized to $350 million from $300 million amid strong investor demand, said a person familiar with the situation. Price talk also changed on the registered deal, which is slated to price late Tuesday via Banc of America Securities and Salomon Smith Barney. More details

IBM just been awarded a Department of Energy (DoE) contract worth M$290 for building up the world fastest computer. With the kind help of 130.000 processors,
this animal, called ASCI Purple (how sweet) will be able to make half a quadrillion ops per second, with peaks at 360Tflop, which is more powerful than the 500 fastest supercomputers combined!. Read the rest

AnandTech COMDEX coverage here, is more than interesting. Except from the first Hammer SFF motherboard, it reveals a new mainboard from FIC, reference AN19P, carrying a label with "Premium KT400A Dual Channel DDR400" on it!

- Compuware and AMD to collaborate
Compuware today announced that it has entered into a technology agreement with AMD to add x86-64 support to Compuware SoftICE64. Compuware will provide the global supplier of integrated circuits with SoftICE64 to debug 64-bit device drivers. This agreement enables developers to more rapidly build software targeted for upcoming AMD Opteron and AMD Athlon processors, based on Hammer technology. Read the full news here

Hard time for AMD. K.C. Swanson at thestreet.com is reporting about the awful situation of AMD.
Bad marketing, heavy loss, and market downturn are killing a company which couldn't be saved by God himself:
"In fact, over the long run, AMD's returns have been astonishingly meager. Over the past 20 years, the company spent $25 billion to reap a $2 billion increase
in market capitalization, notes Parker. They've destroyed $23 billion of value,".
