| ______________________________________________ 12/04/06 - AMD 2006 revs up 90 thanks to ATI In its latest Semi's company rank, iSuppli reveals AMD strong performance in revenue for 2006 thanks to a strong demand for its product and ATI acquisition. On its side, Intel, still first, is down 4B$ or 11% compared to 2005: "There’s a certain poetic justice to the ATI acquisition boosting AMD into iSuppli’s top-10 ranks in 2006; AMD in 2005 just missed making the top-10 due to the sale of its Spansion flash-memory division.". Sun has won a deal to supply the University of Texas with a huge system : "The Texas Advanced Computer Center (TACC) at UT will put a $59m grant from the National Science Foundation toward the supercomputer. The school hopes to have a base version of the computer humming away by June 1 and a final version running by October 2007. All told, the finished product will have a whopping 13,000 four-core Opteron processors from AMD, 100TB of memory and 1.7PB of disk". More here ______________________________________________ 09/28/06 - AMD Major Agreement in China AMD and Founder Technology announced an agreement to offer Founder customers a range of systems based on AMD64 processors, which are recognized for their innovation and performance-per-watt leadership. Founder, China’s second largest PC provider and the seventh largest global desktop PC provider, expects to launch AMD64 processor-based desktop PCs throughout China in early October 2006. The sales agreement will begin with desktop systems and expand to cover both the notebook and the server markets in the near future. Read the whole story here ______________________________________________ 07/13/06 - AMD First Revenue Shipments from Chartered AMD announced that in June it began its first revenue shipments of AMD64 processors manufactured at Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing in Singapore. AMD and Chartered ramped 300mm production at Fab 7 in record time, hitting all major milestones and starting production at mature yields. Initial shipments out of Chartered consisted of microprocessors manufactured on 90nm process technology. The ramp of volume production at Chartered combined with recent announcements in Dresden shows that AMD will have the ability to intelligently scale and flex production in line with customer demand. Read more here ______________________________________________ 07/07/06 - AMD Sales up 52% AMD today announced that sales for the second quarter ended July 2, 2006 are expected to be approximately $1.215 billion – a 52 percent increase compared to the second quarter of 2005 and a nine percent decline compared to the first quarter of 2006. The company’s prior guidance for the second quarter anticipated overall sales to be flat to slightly down seasonally from the first quarter of 2006. Record AMD Opteron processor sales were driven by continued strong demand for single-, dual- and multi-socket configurations for servers and workstations. These results include a stock-based compensation expense of $15 million due to the implementation of SFAS 123(R) and an expense of $20 million associated with the partial redemption of senior notes. Read more here ______________________________________________ 03/24/06 - Cray XT3 for Western Australian SC Program Cray Inc. announced that the University of Western Australia will install a Cray XT3 system as part of the Western Australia Supercomputing Program (WASP). Among the research activities planned for the new supercomputer are major large-scale computational studies and simulations in the areas of geophysics, chemistry, astrophysics, biology, rock mechanics, genetic epidemiology, physics and quantum mechanics, and water research.
